How to Qualify
To be eligible to participate in the PenFed Honors Advantage points on travel purchases program, you must qualify through either one of the following ways:

*Once you're approved for the PenFed Pathfinder® Rewards Visa® Signature Card, you can open a checking account (except a PenCheck Limited Account) and receive an additional 1x point on all travel purchases. You must be a primary owner on both the credit card AND checking account to receive Honors Advantage bonus rewards. If no checking account is open at the time of the Pathfinder card application, the 1x point reward increase will be added within one business day of opening the checking account.
You must maintain the checking account in order to receive the points on all travel purchases. If you close your checking account, then you’ll receive the standard
points on all travel purchases. For Free Checking account holders, to receive
points during the upcoming checking statement cycle, you need to have maintained the minimum balance or made qualifying direct deposits for at least one of the two previous checking statement cycles. Members with a qualifying Free Checking account must also 1) maintain a minimum $500 daily balance OR 2) set up monthly direct deposits of $500 or more in order to maintain Honors Advantage Eligibility. A minimum balance or direct deposit is not required to maintain a Free Checking account.
**As a PenFed Pathfinder® Rewards cardholder, if you qualify for Honors Advantage (member of the military or Access America Checking or Free Checking account holder) at the time of the application, we will waive the annual fee on your account. If you were not eligible at account opening, but subsequently become eligible, the annual fee will be waived on your next anniversary. If at any time, you fail to meet maintain the eligibility requirements, you will no longer be eligible for the waiver. You will receive advance notice of this change.

A: No. Rewards can only be used on net purchases (purchases minus any credits or returns). Cash advances, balance transfers, and checks used to access your account are not considered purchases and will not earn rewards.
