PenFed Credit Union Sponsors Inaugural Veterans In Business Awards

TYSONS, Va., May 20, 2019PenFed Credit Union, the nation’s second-largest federal credit union, today announced its exclusive sponsorship of the 2019 Washington Business Journal Veterans in Business Awards. The inaugural awards will honor 12 Greater Washington military veteran business leaders and one company for outstanding practices in business and for support of the military community at an awards breakfast Thursday, June 27, 2019.

“As the leading credit union serving the national defense community since 1935, we are honored to celebrate the tremendous contributions made by veteran business leaders and recognize them for their support of other veterans,” said James Schenck, President and CEO of PenFed Credit Union and CEO of the PenFed Foundation. “We thank the Washington Business Journal for partnering with PenFed in honoring our local veteran business leaders,”

Retired Army Master Sgt. Cedric King, President and CEO of the PenFed Foundation Speakers Bureau, will be the keynote speaker for the breakfast. King is a paraplegic wounded warrior who transformed himself into a marathon runner, motivational speaker and entrepreneur.

The 2019 veteran honorees were selected by a rigorous panel including Washington Business Journal editors and include:

PenFed also supports the military community through the PenFed Foundation, which has provided more than $30 million in financial support to over 130,000 veterans, active-duty service members, families and caregivers since its founding in 2001.

In 2018, the PenFed Foundation launched the Veteran Entrepreneur Investment Program (VEIP) with donor contributions and match funding from PenFed Credit Union totalingover $1 million. The program provides Veteran-owned start-ups with seed capital to build and grow their businesses and creates a robust network for Veteran-owned businesses to succeed.

PenFed is also sponsoring 2019 Veterans in Business Awards in Atlanta on Sept. 12 and San Antonio on Oct. 10.
