PenFed Credit Union Gives $15,000 to Eugene Charities
EUGENE, Ore., April 10, 2019 – PenFed Credit Union’s Eugene Service Center today announced their first quarter charitable donations totaling $15,000 to Lucky Paws Dog Rescue, Meals on Wheels Lane County and Volunteers In Medicine (VIM). PenFed employees met with the charities in March and presented them with the donation checks.
These donations are part of PenFed’s commitment to giving $100,000 to nonprofit organizations in the Eugene area this year. Each quarter, PenFed’s Eugene Service Center employees select local charities that align with the credit union’s core values of giving back and making a difference in the communities PenFed serves.
“It is such an honor to give back to our community through our employee charitable giving initiative,” said PenFed’s Senior Vice President of Operations Dave Silvey, who manages the Eugene Service Center. “People helping people in their communities runs deep in the core values of PenFed’s culture. These organizations are passionate and committed to helping those in need of their services in Lane County. Through these donations we acknowledge those efforts and say ‘thank you’ for all the important work these organizations do.”
During the first presentation, PenFed employees met with Lucky Paws Dog Rescue Executive Director Juli Upshaw, volunteers and their dogs. The charitable, not-for-profit, advocates for animals in danger of euthanasia by focusing on saving animals from high kill shelters and providing them with medical, spay/neuter and vaccination services. Lucky Paws also works to place rescued animals in foster homes until they meet their new forever family.
“Lucky Paws Rescue is so excited and grateful for PenFed’s support. We plan to use this donation to start a Lucky Paws work program that will offer job training for individuals with disabilities. This program will allow us to bring even more joy to animals and people,” said Upshaw.
Volunteers In Medicine (VIM) was the second charitable organization selected by PenFed employees this quarter. The organization is a primary care, medical clinic for low-income, underserved adults and their households in Lane County who cannot afford healthcare coverage. VIM Executive Director DeLeesa Meashintubby and Business Manager Susie Goss, met with PenFed employees at the Eugene Service Center. During this time, employees were able to learn more about the organization and possible volunteer opportunities.
“Volunteers In Medicine is so very thankful for PenFed’s support in helping us to help many,” said Meashintubby.
For the final presentation, PenFed employees were introduced to Meals on Wheels Lane County Senior & Disability Services Division Director Emily Farrell and Senior Meals Café 60 and Meals on Wheels Program Manager Heather Demsky. The Meals on Wheels program is available to homebound people over 60 and their spouses – regardless of their income. Lane County volunteers deliver nourishing, freshly prepared noontime meals as part of the program.
“The staff, volunteers and participants of the Senior Meals Program extend our gratitude and appreciation to PenFed and their employees for choosing to support Meals on Wheels in Lane County with their employee charitable giving campaign. Meals on Wheels is more than a meal—it’s a lifeline. This donation not only provides a hot, nutritiously balanced meal, it also provides a friendly connection and consistent safety check for homebound older members of our community,” shared Farrell and Demsky.
Since opening the service center in Eugene in 1996, PenFed has supported local veteran and community organizations.
