OSC and PSC Q2 Charity Donations

PAPILLION and OMAHA, Neb., June 15– PenFed Senior Vice President of the Regional Service Center in Omaha Jim Kingsley today announced charitable donations totaling $25,000 to three local charities: Omaha Children’s Home, Rejuvenating Women, and the Offutt Air Force Base Top 3 Association as part of PenFed’s commitment to donate $100,000 to Papillion and Omaha charities throughout 2018

“Each quarter, PenFed’s Papillion and Omaha Service Center employees select local charities that align with the core values of the credit union and to give back to our communities,” said PenFed President and CEO James Schenck. “On behalf of the PenFed Papillion and Omaha employees, and our executive team, we want to thank these organizations for all that they do in their communities and the individuals they serve.”

In addition to the check presentation ceremony, which was held at the credit union’s branch in Papillion on Wednesday, June 13, PenFed’s Papillion and Omaha Service Center’s employees hosted an all-American barbecue dinner for the 350 residents of the Siena-Francis House on Thursday, June 14, National Flag Day. The Siena-Francis House, the largest shelter in Nebraska, provides services to homeless individuals, 35 percent of whom are veterans, in their downtown facilities in Omaha.

"We are proud to support the fantastic work of the Siena-Francis House Homeless Shelter by providing this meal," said Kingsley. "It’s an honor to have the opportunity to give back to our community, and particularly to serve the veterans who have risked their lives for our freedom. We hope this small act of service conveys our deep respect and appreciation for them.”

PenFed employees and their families volunteered their time to serve and honor the residents on this special evening. The barbecue dinner included grilled hamburgers, chips, and baked beans. To celebrate National Flag Day, the meal was served with patriotic-themed napkins and each guest received a small American flag and employee-made decorated flag cookies.

“More than 40,000 of our nation’s veterans suffer homelessness,” said Kingsley. “But Nebraska is taking the lead in caring for this at-risk population. According to a 2017 report from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, just one percent of the state’s veterans go without shelter at night—the smallest percentage in the entire nation. We’re proud to partner with an organization that helps to protect those who have given so much to protect us.”

Siena-Francis House Homeless Shelter provides emergency overnight shelter to individuals experiencing homelessness and also provides food, clothing and case management as needed for people facing difficult life challenges. The efforts of many local groups and individuals make this work possible in Omaha, where the homeless population encounters life-threatening winter conditions each year.

The Omaha Service Center opened its doors in 1992 with 20 employees. The Papillion Service Center opened in 2012 with the same number of employees. In August 2016, PenFed selected Papillion for its first branch location in Nebraska, and currently employs four full-time employees. Today, all three Tysons, Va.-based credit union locations, combined, employ more than 555 individuals, locally. The service center serves over 1.6 million PenFed members worldwide. Since opening all three locations in Papillion and Omaha, PenFed has actively worked with a local organizations as part of the credit union’s mission to give back to the communities in which it serves.
