warrant officer history in the making - On August 28, 2008, five chief warrant officers were the first to enter the Intermediate Level Education program at the Command and General Staff College (C&GSC), Fort Leavenworth, KS. It is a pilot program to offer a broadening experience to a different category of Army leaders that normally wouldn't have that opportunity. Chief Warrant Officer 4 Percy Alexander (Quartermaster), Chief Warrant Officer 4 Tim Feathers (Aviation), Chief Warrant Officer 4 Richard Myers (Ordnance), Chief Warrant Officer 4 Nathaniel Jones (Air Defense), and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Russell (Ordnance) are the first warrant officers admitted to the C&GSC. (Pictured right: C&GSC Commandant Lt. Gen. William Caldwell IV talks with CW3  Robert Russell, CW4 Percy Alexander, CW4 Richard Myers, CW4 Timothy Feathers and CW4 Nathaniel Jones about their participation in CGSC Aug. 27 in the Lewis and Clark Center's main conference room. Army Aviation Centennial, What is it? Merely 100 years ago, Orville Wright flew the Wright Flyer at Fort Myer, Va. Orville’s test flight eventually lead to the Army’s purchase of the first “aeroplane” in 1909 and established a flight school at College Park, Md. This celebration is designed to highlight the efforts of the U.S. military that led to the purchase of the Army’s first plane and subsequent events that created the establishment of Military Aviation. The commemoration is an Army-led, military-wide, family-friendly celebration with the Fort Myer military community hosting the capstone event because of its place in history as the home of the first military flight. The Fort Myer event will consist of demonstrations, exhibits, static displays, bands, marching units and flyovers. With some 35% (almost 8,000) of the Warrant Officer Corps consisting of Aviation Warrant Officers this is a significant commemoration in the Corps History - see more.

Recognition of Donations

The Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation began in January 2008 to recognize the Members and Chapters who answer the challenges issued at USAWOA Annual Meetings over the last few years.

All donations at this time go to fund a "Memorial to our Fallen Army Warrant Officer Comrades." The goal is to place the memorial at the planned National Museum of the U.S. Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Individuals who donate $100 or more over a 12-month period will receive a specially produced 2" round coin with original brass Eagle Rising in the center. The current Warrant Officer rank insignia appears on the body of the Eagle. The circle on the front of the coin is inscribed "Warrant Officers Heritage Foundation" and the reverse is inscribed "Preserving Our Warrant Officer History." (See our logo at the top of this page). USAWOA Chapters who donate $250 or more over a 12-month period will receive a brown flag streamer with the inscription "WO Heritage Supporter" embroidered in gold.

Eligibility for recognition under the above program is retroactive to the establishment of the Foundation. All donations, without regard to size, will be acknowledged in writing for tax deduction purposes.
