It is with great pride and pleasure that I announce the selection of CW5 Poyas Haynes as the new Command Chief Warrant Officer of the Army National Guard. CCWO Haynes has served in a long and distinguished career with the Army and the South Carolina Army National Guard. The Senior Leadership of the ARNG and the NGB is honored to have him join our team.
CW5 Haynes enlisted in the Army in 1969. He completed the Warrant Officer Flight Training program in 1971. He was then sent to the Republic of Vietnam serving with the 240th Assault Helicopter Company, the 128th Assault Helicopter Company, and the 187th Assault Helicopter Company of 1st Aviation Brigade, returning home in 1972. He joined the South Carolina Army National Guard in 1974 serving with 51st Assault Helicopter Company and its successor units, Troop D 101st Cavalry and 1-151st Attack Helicopter Battalion. In 1999 he deployed to Kuwait with Task Force 151 during Operation Southern Watch. From 2000 through 2003 he was assigned to the 51st Aviation Group as the Tactical Operations Officer.
He obtained a B. S. Degree in Business Administration from the College of Charleston. Since 1979 CW5 Haynes has served with the South Carolina Public Service Authority and most recently as a Senior Risk Management Analyst from 1998 through 2003.
CW5 Haynes' awards and decorations include the Air Medal with "V" device, Army Commendation Medal With Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal With Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal With Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Overseas Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal With Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Master Army Aviator Badge, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
