I am an Army warrant officer. As such, I fill a combat essential job in a technical skill field. I am a ______(job)______________ in a ____(unit type________.

I have closely watched the DOD pay study that looked at how warrant officer pay compares to the pay of NCOs. The difference in pay was part of my decision to become a warrant officer. It is important when I talk to soldiers about becoming a warrant officer.

I have read (Army Times, June 11th) that Representative Murtha wants a pay increase that will provide an equal percentage to each service member, instead of the targeted pay that DOD recommends.

As a warrant officer, I know that over the years the pay of NCOs has grow closer to that of warrant officers. I think that this situation discourages warrant officer recruiting and retention. Targeted pay is necessary to correct this situation. As I advance in grade and out in years of service, my technical skills and responsibilities increase. I believe that my pay should move away from, not closer, to that of the NCOs.

In discussions and vote, please support the targeted pay raises that DoD recommends. Thank you.
