"It was a tremendous honor to receive this prestigious award and be placed in the ranks with some truly outstanding warrant officers. I'd like to thank CW4 Barbara Carpenter for having the faith in my abilities and accomplishments by nominating me. Though the award was presented to me personally, I wouldn't be where am without the teamwork, support and guidance of the many soldiers I have worked with throughout my career, peers, leaders, and subordinates alike. But I'd most especially like to thank my family. My father and oldest brother, who are both retired Warrant Officers, and my mother instilled honesty and a strong work ethic in me. And my husband, Art, also a retired Warrant Officer, has been a true mentor, always standing behind me and encouraging me to go that one step further. Thank you again. I am truly honored."

Virginia Holcombe Memorial Award
for National Spouse of the Year
Mrs. Paula Tackett, Heidelberg Chapter, Heidelberg, Germany

"First and foremost, it is truly an honor to be selected to receive the Virginia M. Holcombe Memorial Award for the USAWOA Spouse of the Year. I feel truly blessed to represent and to bring this honor home to the Heidelberg Chapter and European Region.
I can truly say, that I did not earn this award by myself. There are numerous other Warrant Officer Spouses, men and women, who have been beside me every step of the way. As the spouse of the European Region President, I get the chance to travel and meet spouses from all areas of Europe. Everywhere, I see spouses stepping up to the plate and taking the extra effort to make their Chapter activities a success. I can truly say, if you want to see “active” spouses, just visit any USAWOA Chapter in Europe. You’ll see spouses volunteering hours and hours of time to support their local chapter. You’ll see ER spouses manning fund-raiser activities, cooking food for chapter events, setting up tours for visiting spouses, selling chapter memorabilia items, recruiting potential new members and much, much more. These spouses are the “unsung” heroes of the USAWOA.
In closing, there are numerous people that I could thank for this honor. This list could be endless, but one person whom I must thank is my husband, CW5 Phil Tackett. For 30 years, we have supported each other and without this support, I know that this honor would not have happened. Again, it is truly an honor to have been selected to receive the Virginia M. Holcombe Memorial Award for USAWOA Spouse of the Year.
Thank-you,"
Paula Tackett
